Longest Total Eclipse in 33 Years – Super Flower Blood Moon 2022

The Super Flower Blood Moon occurred on May 15 at 6:32 p.m. PT and reached total lunar eclipse at 8:29 p.m. (PT), making it the "longest total eclipse in 33 years."

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth and the sun align in a straight line, and this May's event will be the first total lunar eclipse of 2022.

"Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth aligns between the sun and the moon, casting a shadow across the lunar surface," said Daisy Dobrijevic, a space writer.
